Wedding Gown Silhouettes

November 6th, 2009

When it comes to shopping for your wedding gown or being the companion to help the bride to be, it is good to know the bridal terms. Let’s start with the major terms for gown silhouettes. You will feel more comfortable and in the know when you interact with the consultant. The major gown silhouettes: A-Line/Princess, Ball Gown, Trumpet/Mermaid, and Sheath. Then of course you have type of neckline, waist type, embellishments, theme, and length… Oh my! But no stressing here, just try them all on! It’s the best part, right?? *Tip: Take a look at dresses you already own in your closet and see what clothing style fits you best. Start with those types first!

Gown Preservation

November 4th, 2009

Ahh that wedding gown…it takes months, tears, stress, savings, and approval from your bridal party to find that perfect wedding dress. You will wear it once and have the most beautiful day. Amidst the walk down the aisle, makeup smears, dining, dancing, drinking, perspiration, and socializing, you are bound to stain your gown.

Now how to get your gown back into mint condition and have it stay that way? Gown preservation is the way to go. Don’t let months pass by because before you know it stains will be harder to get out, invisible stains will appear due to sugar and salt spills, yellowing of the fabric will begin, and mildew can become a problem.

Have your precious gown shipped or dropped off at a preservation company. Some reputable preservationist specialists are Preservations by Fox in Los Angeles, Margaret’s Cleaners in Orange County, and J. Scheer & Co. in New York. Prices can range from about $350++ depending on gown size, fabric, details, and stains.

Your gown will be carefully examined, individually handled, and put through a thorough cleaning. Check out their websites for the detailed process. In due time you’ll be ready to say I do again!

Birdcage Chic

November 3rd, 2009

A new wedding trend this fall and winter is the birdcage style veil. Make a bold statement at your wedding by sporting these little veil toppers. Have a simple gown that needs a little boost or want that vintage glam? A birdcage veil will instantly add elegance and a romantic feel to any gown. I especially love the added touch of rhinestones on the feathers.

Check out these showstoppers.

Ice Breakers

September 7th, 2009

Save-the-date-2

There have been a couple things on my mind lately. 1) How hard it can be to “connect” with people. 2) Even when at a wedding, where guests are familiar with each other, conversation can become stagnant. After a couple of moments, the pleasantries fade, and once you realize that you are at the “friends of the bride table,” you turn to your significant other and start talking about the food.

Putting together thoughts about how to make the party more fun, I came across these inspirational visuals. I know two are supposed to be used for save-the-date notifications. What if, however, we used them for fun instead? Find an ice breaker at the cocktail hour using the stickers as old-fashion dance cards. The quiz is an easy one; use it as a way to find who’s in the party with you by asking questions specific to your guest list. The third (little envelope on the postcard) could be a great escort card with a photo of the location that you used in place of table numbers. Inside the envelope maybe a question to ask each of the people seated at their table.

Creative ways to get to know each other can really get the conversation started and that, as Martha would say, is a good thing!

I’ve never tasted cake like this before…

September 2nd, 2009

I will be quite honest here – I am a bit jaded when it comes to wedding cake. Years ago I worked for a bakery, and since then I have never neglected a bite at any of my weddings. I love sweets, I love chocolate and I love food. Match made in heaven? Well, sometimes. Nothing has really turned my head like Jenna Turners wedding cakes at Susina Bakery on Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles. Let me describe what I’m talking about here: four layers of light vanilla cake, fresh whipped cream with mixed berry filling (not too sticky sweet), covered in whipped cream and topped with flaked meringue! This is “died and gone to heaven wedding cake.” To my future brides, please, for me, order her cake for your wedding – you will have one happy planner. So, Jenna, my friend, it’s safe to say I have a crush.
